How do I submit a podcast?
It’s simple: send an email to jason.smith@ucomm.utah.edu indicating that you’d like to submit a podcast. You will be contacted with details on how to go about sending your recording to us on CD, DVD, or to arrange for uploading to our FTP site.
When submitting a podcast, there are a few guidelines to keep in mind:
- Events or lectures featuring a single speaker work best, or those with multiple individuals speaking in turn; panel discussions or roundtable conversations are generally less successful.
- Recordings of one hour or less are best. Longer recordings generate large file sizes that most users will not be able to download.
- We cannot upload audio recordings of speakers or topics that rely heavily on visuals or PowerPoint presentations.
- We require a signed consent form from the speaker(s) before we can upload a podcast.
- If the speaker fields questions and those questions are inaudible, we may edit the question-and-answer section from the recording.
- Subjects or topics should be of interest to a general audience.
- Submitted podcasts of poor recording quality cannot be accepted. We look for MP3s recorded at 64 kbps (mono), 44.1 kHz. If you don’t know what this means or whether your recording meets these standards, please contact Jason Smith (jason.smith@ucomm.utah.edu).
- We will edit all podcasts for audio quality. We will also add a brief introduction identifying the recording as a University of Utah lecture or event.
We reserve the right to reject any submitted podcast or request for recording based on the above criteria.
How do I have my lecture or speech recorded for podcasting?
For best results, we recommend contacting Instructional Media Services (Stan Clawson, 801-581-8610, stan.clawson@utah.edu) to arrange for recording of your event. IMS will charge a nominal fee for the service.
If you would like to discuss other options, please contact Jason Smith at (801) 581-3862 or Jason.smith@ucomm.utah.edu.
How do I make a comment or suggestion?
If you have a suggestion for how we may do things better or an idea for a podcast you’d like to see on the site, contact Jason Smith (Jason.smith@ucomm.utah.edu).
